The hour hand between numbers

The hour hand does not always point exactly at a number. As time passes, it moves gradually from one hour to the next. After two o’clock, for example, it begins moving from 2 toward 3.

Knowing the numbers on the face is only part of reading a clock. This skill helps explain why the hand may sit between them and follows practice with clock hands and quarter hours.

How to practice:

• Look at both hands and choose the time that matches the picture.
• Use the spoken hint to understand which hour has passed.

If the hour hand is between 4 and 5, four o’clock has passed but it is not yet five o’clock. The questions help children understand the movement of time as well as recognize the numbers.
