Add cubes and solve to 10

This interactive skill introduces addition within 10. Add a second group of cubes to the first and find the total, seeing how parts combine to make a whole.

Instead of only counting ready-made groups, children build the row of cubes themselves. Adding becomes a practical action: add as many cubes as the number tells you.

How to practice:

• Read or listen to the question, such as “There are 2 yellow cubes. Add 1 green cube. How many cubes are there altogether?”
• Tap the source cube to add the required number, or drag cubes into the frame.
• Count all the cubes, choose the total, and tap Check.
• Tap Help for a hint about what to add or remove.

Use the speaker button to hear the instructions. This also supports children who are not yet confident readers or find written instructions difficult to follow.

Encourage children to explain: “I had two cubes. I added three. Now there are five.” This connects the action with the equation 2 + 3 = 5.

Children see why a quantity increases when objects are added. They match numbers with quantities, understand the signs + and =, find sums, and learn number bonds.

The activity practices following mathematical instructions, completing steps in order, checking results, and correcting mistakes. It prepares children for addition without cubes, number bonds, and calculations within 20.
