Subtract with cubes to 10

This skill uses cubes to show the meaning of subtraction within 10. Start with a group, take away the stated number, and find how many are left.

How to practice:

• Read or listen to the question, such as “Start with 10 cubes. Remove 2 cubes.”
• Look at the cubes that have been removed.
• Choose the number of cubes left.
• Tap Help if you need a hint about the calculation.

Use the speaker button to hear the instructions. This also supports children who are not yet confident readers or find written instructions difficult to follow.

The questions become more challenging gradually. Begin with small groups and move on to subtraction within 10, including examples with zero cubes left.
